World Philanthropy Forum 2020 Special Session Held at Tsinghua University

On behalf of the forum organizer, Chen Xu expressed his gratitude to all the guests for their participation. During the epidemic, Tsinghua University actively participated in and helped the global fight against the epidemic with practical actions, and focused on philanthropy education to promote the development of the spirit of philanthropy, social responsibility and human feelings.

Chen Xu emphasized that in response to the common crisis of mankind, philanthropy has never been absent. In his speech, Lin Songtian emphasized that the new crown pneumonia epidemic is still spreading around the world, which not only poses a serious threat to human production, life and life, health and safety, but also has an unprecedented impact on the global economy, international structure and governance system. At the moment of the epidemic, respecting life is the greatest charity; in today’s world, insisting on development is the greatest charity; in the face of crisis, solidarity and cooperation are the greatest charity. As a national people’s organization engaged in non-governmental diplomacy, the Chinese People’s Association for Foreign Affairs will fully mobilize the resources of non-governmental diplomacy at home and abroad, actively participate in international public welfare and charity cooperation, and help countries and groups in need, regardless of race, color, religion and culture, to achieve Develop together.

Charitable organizations play an irreplaceable and important role as a carrier of the kindness of the public. With the advent of the post-epidemic era, the society has entered the stage of normalizing epidemic prevention and control, and charitable organizations should actively explore transformation, integrate innovation, and break through limitations.

Duan Chongzhi pointed out in his speech that the COVID-19 epidemic has brought unprecedented challenges to all fields and everyone. The world must work together to deal with the crisis, and the World Philanthropy Forum can play an even more significant role. On the one hand, CUHK is fully and actively responding to the challenges brought about by the epidemic, and at the same time, it has also developed innovative methods in various aspects, and continues to shoulder the heavy responsibility of education, scientific research and social service. Cross-university and cross-regional collaboration, collaboration between universities, and partnerships between universities and charities, social services, and public institutions must also be strengthened and more strategic to enable universities to serve the global community more effectively. However, the overall lagging development of philanthropy has not fundamentally changed, and there is still a long way to go to comprehensively promote the legal construction of charity.

In his speech, Qiao Wei pointed out that the overseas Chinese made important contributions to their home country and host country during the epidemic. The Chinese Dream is the greatest common divisor of the vast number of overseas Chinese, and it is the internal driving force for overseas Chinese to play a unique role in international public welfare and charity cooperation in the post-epidemic era. It is necessary to encourage and guide the overseas Chinese to better integrate into and give back to the local society, and to do more public welfare and charitable undertakings with people-to-people bonds; to support and help the overseas Chinese to actively participate in international public welfare and charity cooperation; to help the overseas Chinese become a bridge between the Chinese dream and the beautiful dreams of the people of the world and messengers.

Yang Bin shared his thoughts on “Humble Charity”. He pointed out that more effective leadership is needed for philanthropy to make a difference. “Humble Charity” aims at the “Four Not’s”: not for the purpose of gaining praise and attention, not for the purpose of commercial gain, not for the purpose of proving yourself, not for the purpose of changing others. “Humble Charity” emphasizes the balance of giving and receiving, present and future, inner and outer, emphasizing the idea of transcending possession, and emphasizing sustainability. Philanthropy education should provide sufficient support for the scientific, systematic, and high-quality development of the philanthropy industry, pay attention to the cultivation of philanthropy culture and the inheritance of philanthropy spirit, and sow the seeds of philanthropy in all educational links.
